Originally called Service Mailing and Printing Company and later Service Graphics, SGI was founded in 1967 to provide print, bindery, and mailing services. The small, family-owned business expanded as early clients like Eli Lilly, an Indianapolis-based pharmaceutical company, grew throughout the 1970s. SGI branched out into fulfillment in the early 1980s as large companies began outsourcing non-core activities to firms that could deliver quality results and cost savings. In 1997, SGI divested its in-house print services to focus the company’s skills and resources on marketing logistics.
